Checking in at halfway point of 21-day closures along southbound I-465

After this closure, crews will have a few weeks off, then do the same project on the northbound lanes starting July 12.

INDIANAPOLIS — INDOT crews are halfway through a 21-day closure on a section of southbound Interstate 465 on the city's east and southeast sides, and 13News got into that work zone to check out the progress.

According to INDOT, the closure will be completed Friday, June 21. The department says so far, crews have done 2,000 square yards of patch work and 5,000 square feet of concrete joint pavement. INDOT says these repairs are needed after years of heavy traffic on I-465.

"We've been out here 24/7. We have been working under the clock to make sure we get done in those 21 days," said Kyleigh Cramer, public relations director for INDOT.

Once this closure opens, the bridge deck and potholes will be patched. The department says they decided to do a 21-day stretch instead of overnight closures to keep both crews and drivers safe.

INDOT says it knows it's been difficult for drivers to navigate around the area but hope drivers are excited to see the finished product.

"We know it's an inconvenience, and we really appreciate folks working with us," Cramer said.
