City reports road crews filled 100,000 potholes so far

There is $10 million of funding budgeted specifically for thoroughfare strip-patching this year.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis reports Department of Public Works crews have filled more than 100,000 potholes, so far in 2023.

Crews have done that by using 2,162 tons of hot- and cold-mix asphalt on 5,618 pothole requests.

What has helped is the more mild winter and plants making hot-mix asphalt available earlier.

This year marks the first of Mayor Joe Hogsett's $1.1 billion five-year capital plan. It will make investments in fixing or improving roads, bridges, stormwater systems and pedestrian and bicycle paths.

There is $10 million of funding budgeted specifically for thoroughfare strip-patching, which the city claims will lead to people seeing "major improvements" on the roadways in the coming months.
