INDIANAPOLIS — Primrose Avenue in Broad Ripple doesn't normally get an excessive amount of vehicular traffic.
But ever since construction crews had to shut down a portion of Broad Ripple Avenue for repairs, the once fairly quiet street has some comparing it to a major thoroughfare.
"It's really just been chaotic, and it changes sometimes by like the week, the day of where you can and can't drive," said Emma Floverg.
Indianapolis DPW crews have been making improvement to Broad Ripple Avenue to the tune of about $6 million.
According to DPW's website, the project was slated to be complete by summer 2023.
Crews are improving storm water structures, widening sidewalks, upgrading pedestrian and traffic signals, and adding a new 12-foot-wide, multi-use trail from the Monon Trail to Primrose Avenue.
A traffic calming device was put on Primrose to help ease traffic.
"At that like 5 o'clock hour, I can't imagine trying to get out of your house on this street," said Floverg.
That is a challenge for Cheree Slusher.
"It's been very busy. You have to watch the times. Work times. You know 7-8 o'clock in the morning, at nighttime and around 4:30-5 o'clock. The re-routing of traffic is a lot. Hard to back out. Hard to get through things," said Slusher.
Slusher said she believes crews are working as fast as they can to get the job done.
"We're glad that they're upgrading things. We really love Broad Ripple, but it's been a challenge," said Slusher.
Slusher's husband said improvements are needed.
"It's an inconvenience but at the same time it's well worth it. A lot of positive changes in the area," said Jay Slusher.
Floverg wants her neighbors to be safe and is calling on DPW to provide more.
"Someone directing traffic or just a better way to like add a detour that's not through a residential neighborhood where kids and people live," she said.
