80-year-old pedestrian killed in Miami County crash

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. — An 80-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver in Miami County Monday afternoon.

Indiana State Police troopers from the Peru District, as well as Miami County sheriff's deputies, responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on Wabash Road, near Paw Paw Pike in Peru, around 5 p.m. Nov. 18.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2007 Ford Focus, driven by a 53-year-old man from Wabash, was going eastbound on Wabash Road when he struck 80-year-old Beverly Bowen, of Peru.

Medics arrived and pronounced Bowen dead at the scene. Police said the driver of the car was not injured.

Toxicology results are pending, but police said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
