INDIANAPOLIS — A Brownsburg man died and a woman was critically injured in an overnight crash on Interstate 465 on the south side of Indianapolis.
The crash happened just after 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-465 between Meridian Street and Bluff Road.
Brandon Machingura, 24, of Brownsburg, was speeding in a Dodge Charger and, when he went to change lanes, he hit the side of a semi-truck.
Indiana State Police said the Dodge Charger spun out of control and hit the concrete median barrier wall.
Several passing drivers stopped to help. They called 911 and told dispatchers that there was a serious crash, two people were trapped in the wreckage and both were unresponsive.
IMPD officers and IFD firefighters were the first to arrive. State police said they worked quickly to pull Machingura and a woman from the wreckage and give them emergency medical aid.
The woman passenger, who was not identified by police, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Machingura was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
INDOT announced all lanes of the interstate reopened around 6 a.m.
Neither weather nor road conditions are believed to be factors in the crash, state police said.
