INDIANAPOLIS — One person died and five more people were injured in a four-vehicle crash Saturday night on the south side of Indianapolis.
IMPD officers responded to a report of a crash near U.S. 31 and Edgewood Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 3.
According to a preliminary investigation, a black 2018 Jeep Compass was going north on U.S. 31, crossing Edgewood Avenue with a green light. At the same time, a white 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck was going west on Edgewood Avenue but did not stop for the red light at U.S. 31. That's when the pickup truck slammed into the passenger side of the Jeep, spinning it 90 degrees, and pushing it into the intersection.
The pickup truck then crashed into a black 2020 Toyota Corolla that was going north on U.S. 31, spinning it 180 degrees and causing the Toyota to hit a silver 2016 Hyundai Sonata that was going south on U.S. 31.
Police said a passenger in the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 52-year-old Robert J. Fullerton.
According to police, the driver of the pickup truck is in critical condition and is suspected of drunk driving, which resulted in the driver's arrest. Police said there were also two kids in the pickup truck at the time of the crash. The pickup truck driver is still in the hospital as of Monday morning.
The two kids in the pickup truck had minor injuries and were taken to Riley Hospital for Children out of precaution.
The driver of the Jeep had serious injuries from the crash and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the Corolla had minor injuries and was taken to IU Methodist Hospital. A passenger in the Corolla was also injured and taken to IU Methodist Hospital in serious condition.
Police did not share the condition of the driver in the Sonata.
