85-year-old woman dead, another woman critically injured in crash on Indy's north side

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a deadly crash that happened Friday afternoon on the city's north side.

Officers responded to a report of a crash between a car and a van at the intersection of East 62nd and North Meridian streets shortly before 1:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

Investigators believe the car was going southbound on North Meridian Street when it hit the passenger van, which was going eastbound on East 62nd Street through the intersection.

Police said 85-year-old Dorothy Williams was driving the car and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. However, she later died from her injuries. Medics took the woman driving the van to a hospital in critical condition.

According to IMPD, the woman driving the van is cooperating with investigators, and intoxication is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
