INDIANAPOLIS — A construction project scheduled for this weekend on the north side of Indianapolis has been postponed.
Crews were scheduled to repair guardrails and the bridge deck overlay on the ramp from U.S. 31 South to Interstate 465 East. The project is expected to be rescheduled in the upcoming weeks, INDOT said. There is no word on when the work may take place, though INDOT noted the schedules "may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur."
"Nothing crazy there, but just putting in some safe measures for our crews to get that done," INDOT public relations director Kyleigh Cramer said.
Still on schedule this weekend, I-465 East near Keystone Avenue to the White River will be reduced one lane. The interstate is scheduled to be reopened before the Monday morning rush hour.
INDOT says while they know drivers have gotten used to the construction on the interstate, they do a lot of the projects on the weekends so there isn't a bigger impact to the drivers' commutes throughout the week.
"We see a lot of people on the roads during the week, we don't want to mess with their commutes to and from work so we split them up into two weekends really just to help out our folks trying to get to work and get home," Cramer said.
But as some weekend projects begin, others have been pushed back. On I-465 North between 56th Street and Interstate 70, crews were going to patch the road. After surveying the area, INDOT decided to put this work with a larger section.
"We are going to combine this one with a different section of projects later on down the road, so just making sure we are not taking up too much time," Cramer said.
As drivers navigate through the closures, INDOT said it will work as fast as it can to open up these spots sooner.
