BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — The ramp from Interstate 865 west to Interstate 65 north in Boone County was blocked while police investigated a deadly crash involving a Lafayette man Sunday morning near Whitestown.
The crash was reported before 5 a.m. and police had to shut down all lanes of westbound I-865 at I-465 on the northwest side of Indianapolis through mid-morning for an investigation and crashes that occurred in the backed-up traffic.
Whitestown Police responded to the crash shortly before 3:30 a.m. and located a 2020 white Honda Pilot rolled over into the ditch. The Honda's driver, identified as 22-year-old Edwin Ramirez of Lafayette, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
No other passengers or vehicles were involved.
Police were also dealing with crashes in the traffic backed up along I-865 by the original crash. Two semi-trailers wound up in the median in separate incidents during the crash investigation.
The cause of the crash that killed Ramirez is still under investigation.
