Children rescued from Tippecanoe River

A 1-year-old was taken to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition after the rescue.

WINAMAC, Ind. — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after two children were rescued from the Tippecanoe River Saturday morning.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, around 10:50 a.m. on Nov. 11, the Pulaski County dispatch center received a 911 call that indicated a 1-year-old and a 5-year-old were struggling in the river behind a home on Stamper Drive, near 13th and Monticello streets in Winamac, Indiana.

When officers arrived, family members had pulled the children from the water after hearing the 5-year-old call for help. According to Indiana DNR, the children had been playing outside and went into the river for unknown reasons.

The two children, along with two adult family members, were transported to Pulaski Memorial Hospital for treatment. According to Indiana DNR, the 1-year-old was then transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis in critical condition. 

No further information was released.

Winamac is roughly 100 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis.
