Here's how much the average household is expected to spend on back-to-school shopping this year

Is your wallet ready for your kid's school supplies this year?

INDIANAPOLIS — As schools prepare for incoming students next week, is your wallet ready for your kid's school supplies?

13News' Allison Gormly has your answer in this week's What's the Deal?

She priced out 11 items on a local school list, plus a lunchbox and backpack using Walmart's site.

Including strikethrough prices, the list could run you around $90 before tax. Buying the items mostly on sale would cost around $54.

Both of these prices accounts for just one child and only a basic school list. The bill keeps climbing when you add more kids, clothes and electronics.

While the list was put together from Walmart, sales were similar at other stores.

The National Retail Federation expects consumers to spend record amounts for back-to-school shopping this year. More specifically, it predicts around $890 per household.

If you need more expensive items like a laptop, don't forget to use tools like the site Honey to check out the item's price history.
