Fever fans ready for team's return to playoffs after exciting season

If you have been to any Fever game this season, you have experienced the excitement around the team.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever are in Connecticut preparing for their first playoff game since 2016.

If you have been to any Fever game this season, you have experienced the excitement around the team.

Julia Streer was at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Friday to get a head start on getting her playoff tickets.

"They've given us electricity back into Indianapolis, especially because they're finally recognizing the women's team" she said.

Streer went to five games this season, but made sure to watch on TV when she wasn't at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

"My favorite thing is watching them play and their teamwork " said Streer.

The team has been a top topic in the sports industry.

"You can't overstate the impact that this has had," said Indianapolis radio host Jake Query.

Query said the team and Caitlin Clark has given the city another team to root for.

"Fans have seen that as well and have been excited about another sports option for them to be able to follow, watch over the course of the summertime," he said.

According to Pacers Sports & Entertainment, jersey sales are up more than 1,000% and ticket sales are up more than 200% this year.

"You've seen it in truly every aspect of downtown, of people coming in early, people staying late, people not just frequenting the bars and restaurants around here, but in so many cases, having hotel rooms and making a weekend out of it, because the Fever is the must have ticket," said Downtown Indy Inc. CEO Taylor Schaffer.

All parts of Indianapolis are taking advantage of the Fever's success.

"That's wonderful for what's happening on the court with these incredible players, but It's also giving us an opportunity to really highlight Indianapolis, to show off our beautiful downtown," said Schaffer.

The first two games of the Fever's WNBA playoffs series with the Connecticut Sun will be played Sunday and Wednesday in Connecticut. If a third game is needed in the best-of-3 series, it will be played Friday, Sept. 27 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
