Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston takes young basketball players on shopping spree

Ten youth basketball players from Lawrence Township were invited to a shopping spree, with Boston serving as their personal shopping assistant.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever standout Aliyah Boston took a break from the court to do a little shopping with some local girls.

Boston was greeted with cheers at Dick's Sporting Goods Saturday afternoon. Ten youth basketball players from Lawrence Township were invited to a shopping spree, with Boston serving as their personal shopping assistant.

Dick's gave each of the girls $500 to spend however they wanted at the store.

Boston said the event goes beyond shopping.

"I think when you look at women's basketball and women's sports just being able to be in the community as women's sports continues to grow, it'll allow young girls to see us and be like, 'Hey, wow, I just want to continue to dream big and be in that position.' I mean it's amazing," she said.

The defending WNBA Rookie of the Year signed autographs after the shopping spree. The girls were also surprised with a pair of tickets to the Fever's game on Sunday against the Dallas Wings.

Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. You can watch the game live on MeTV/WALV.
