INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark has officially been introduced as the newest member of the Indiana Fever.
On Wednesday, the Fever held a press conference at Gainbridge Fieldhouse to introduce Clark alongside General Manager Lin Dunn and head coach Christie Sides.
Clark began the press conference expressing her excitement about playing basketball in Indiana.
"Like I said after I got drafted, I can't think of a better place for myself to start my career — a place that loves basketball, supports women's basketball and an organization that does things the right way," Clark said.
Clark's enthusiasm for her big move to Indiana was on display as she alluded to the Fever having the first overall pick being part of her decision to enter the draft.
"It definitely played a huge role," Clark said. "I was hoping that Indiana got the first pick... so when I saw that, I was pretty excited."
The Fever's draft position wasn't the only thing that influenced her decision though.
"I was ready for a new challenge and something new in my life," Clark said. "It's only five, seven hours from where I grew up. You really can't script it any better."
Fever head coach Christie Sides is confident Clark can bring more wins to the team.
"It's incredible for us to have someone like her join our team," Sides said. "We established a great culture last year and laid a great foundation, so to add someone like her and her awesome support staff... it just puts us in a whole different ballgame."
The Fever begin their 2024 season on Friday, May 3 with a preseason matchup against the Dallas Wings. Their first regular season game will be Tuesday, May 14 against the Phoenix Mercury in Phoenix. The Fever's home opener is scheduled for Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. against the New York Liberty.
