WNBA season resumes as Indiana Fever hosts the Phoenix Mercury Friday

Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark said she needed the break but that she's happy for the season to resume.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Olympic break is over, and it's back to business for the Indiana Fever.

The season resumed Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse with the Fever getting a 98-89 win over the Phoenix Mercury.

13 Sports visited practice Tuesday, where the team is focused on the remainder of the season as they try to make a push for the playoffs.

It was a nice break. Everybody needed it. They needed to step away, kind of reset things.

Rookie guard Caitlin Clark told us she needed the break, but she's happy to be back with a game on the schedule Friday night.

"Obviously, we've already played 26 games. I know they call it the second half of the season, but really, this is only 14 games left to, you know, make a difference in your record and make a playoff push for us, so I think that's the most important part," Clark said. "It's like, really, there's only a month, and every single game is going to matter for us, and luckily enough, we've got quite a few of those at home, so you really need to focus down and be able to get quite a few wins."

Forward Aliyah Boston echoed Clark's sentiments.

"Oh yeah, I think we're very prepared for the second half," Boston said. "I think it's been great to have these few weeks, just continue to work on our craft, defensively, offensively, continuing to connect. I think that's great, I mean, to start the season. It was super quick. We had training camp, and then we were kind of right into it, especially with the schedule that we had, so it's been great to get some time to continue to work together."

So now through Sept. 19, the push is on for the Fever to make the playoffs. We'll watch it play out right here on Channel 13, your local TV home of the Fever.
