Fans gather for watch party as Indy Eleven plays in U.S. Open Cup semifinals

They're the only non-Major League Soccer team to reach the semis of the event.

INDIANAPOLIS — It was a major matchup Tuesday night for the Indy Eleven as they competed in the U.S. Open Cup semifinal.

The start of the evening match in Kansas City was delayed by weather.

Fans showed their excitement at a viewing party in Broad Ripple. They gathered at Union Jack Pub to take in the highest-profile game in the team's history.

"This is the most excited I've ever been for an Indianapolis game, ever," said Alton Moshier.

"So, yeah, the Open Cup is a great tournament. It's the oldest sporting tournament in the United States, so for Indy Eleven to get to the semifinals is pretty great and yeah, I hope to see him pull off a double tonight," said Greg Hempstead.

The Eleven is the only non-Major League Soccer team to reach the semis.

"Over the last several years, my son has really played soccer in high school and really embraced it, and it's just amazing that we can have a team that goes this far in this Open Cup," said Scott Mosier.

They gave up two first-half goals to Sporting KC, losing 2-0. They resume regular season play Saturday at Pittsburgh.
