Zionsville's Matt Anderson helps lead Team USA volleyball to bronze medal in Paris

"Winning a bronze is something that we're going to be very proud of for many years to come," Anderson said.

PARIS, France — Team USA is leading the overall medal count at the Paris Olympics through Friday's competition with 111 total medals.

One of those medals is a bronze that was secured Friday in men's volleyball. Our Samantha Johnson has been in Paris since the start of the games and saw the match.

It only took Team USA about 90 minutes to defeat Italy in straight sets in that volleyball bronze medal match Friday, and you guessed it: Zionsville's Matt Anderson helped lead the charge.

(Note: The video above is an earlier 13News interview with Matt Anderson, who spoke about the importance of the 2024 Games)

Anderson scored eight points across the three sets.

This one was really fun to watch. I talked to Anderson afterward, with his kiddos in his arms. He told us he's proud to bring home to the bronze to the United States, but that he's looking to the future with a new mindset.

"My goal is not to make the Olympics anymore, my goal is to win the Olympics," said Anderson. "Winning a bronze is something that we're going to be very proud of for many years to come. We'll still have some heartbreak looking back and missing the chance to play for a gold with this exact team, the way we are right now, but the future starts tomorrow and we'll see how it goes."

Also from Friday, we want to give a quick shoutout to Purdue Diving's Brandon Loschiavo. Believe it or not, he was just named to Team USA 15 days ago when someone from another country withdrew. He competed in the 10-meter platform on Friday and advanced to the semifinals, which are set for Saturday at 4 p.m.
