WTHR is in Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics

Anne Marie Tiernon and Samantha Johnson speak with Olympic athletes in their first report from France.

PARIS, France — The 13News team has touched down in Paris ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games

They are already meeting some of the athletes with Hoosier ties that will be representing Team USA in the quest for a gold medal.

That includes diver Sarah Bacon. She graduated from Cardinal Ritter High School in Indianapolis, where she was an Indiana state champion. She's a three-time world silver medalist, but this is her first time at the Olympics.

"I was also much like Ali and a lot of other people at this table, I think, planning on retiring after (the 2021) Olympic Games," Bacon said. "So us not making the Games kept me around diving and now I am an Olympian, and I'm just so excited to be here."

Indiana University is also well represented on the USA diving team. Jessica Parratto and Andrew Capobianco are both on the team. At 30 years old, Parratto is the team veteran — this is her third Olympic Games.

"It’s such an incredible legacy of diving," Parratto said, "and just in general, just the best place to get better at diving."
