Fans gather in Carmel's Midtown Plaza for U.S. Olympic Swim Trials watch party

If you couldn't make it for the live event in downtown Indianapolis, this party might be the next best thing.

CARMEL, Ind. — People in Carmel got the chance to see some of this week's U.S. Olympic Swim Trials on a big screen.

If you can't make it for the live event in downtown Indianapolis, it might be the next best thing.

We found a crowd of fans and swimmers at Carmel's Midtown Plaza. They told us they were happy to come out to see the athletes make their case for Team USA.

They also said they were rooting for the entrants from Hamilton County. And while she's not from Carmel, Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky also had a lot of fans at the viewing party.

"Like, I look up to her, yeah yeah yeah," Ali told us.

Carson agreed.

"Katie Ledecky will definitely make it," he said. "And Ali Shackell has a good shot."

Carmel got the name "Swim City USA" this week for the many qualifiers coming from the city.

If you can't make it to Lucas Oil Stadium, the Swim Trials will be broadcast on WTHR. Here is the schedule for the remainder of the event's primetime action:

  • Tuesday, June 18: 8-9:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, June 19: 8-10 p.m.
  • Thursday, June 20: 8-9:15 p.m.
  • Friday, June 21: 8-9 p.m.
