Purdue divers celebrate engagement after competing in Olympics

Team USA diver Greg Duncan popped the question to his girlfriend, Maycey Vieta, who dove for Puerto Rico at the Summer Olympics.

PARIS, France β€” A pair of Purdue University divers wrapped up their Olympic experience with a very special moment in Paris.

Greg Duncan proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Maycey Vieta, after their competitions in France.

And she said yes!

Duncan, a 25-year-old Virginia native who dove at Purdue for four years after transferring from North Carolina, finished eighth with partner Tyler Downs in the 3-meter synchro event in Paris.

Vieta, an Ohio native who just completed her fifth season with the Boilermakers, finished 24th in the 10-meter platform while competing for Puerto Rico.

The couple met early in their diving career, 13News anchor Anne Marie Tiernon reported.

Duncan and Vieta aren't the only couple to get swept up in the romance of Paris during the Summer Games.

On Monday, rower Justin Best proposed to his girlfriend, Lainey Duncan, live on the TODAY Show, days after helping Team USA to its first rowing gold medal in the men's four class since 1960.

Last Friday, Chinese badminton player Li Yuchen chose a different kind of stage to pop the question to girlfriend Huang Ya Qiong.

He asked for her hand in marriage moments after she was awarded her gold medal in the mixed doubles competition with partner Zheng Siwei, with whom she won silver in the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

According to NBC News, French women's skiff sailors Sarah Steyaert and Charline Picon were surprised with proposals after winning a bronze medal and Argentinian handball player Pablo Simonet asked Maria Campoy, a member of Argentina's hockey team, to marry him just moments before the opening ceremony.
