Paris Olympics | It was an opening ceremony like no other

We found a lot of people around the River Seine wearing their USA gear.

PARIS, France — What a kickoff it has been to the 2024 Summer Olympics.

We've been hearing from so many of our friends and viewers saying, "I wish I was in Paris watching the opening ceremony along the River Seine."

There's a lot of people in Paris who are not watching along the river because it's a tough ticket. The logistics are hard, and there's lots of security, but there are other options.

In fact, our current location is just one of about two dozen places in the region – four here in metro Paris – where people can gather and watch for free and cheer on their country.

We found there's a lot of people here wearing their USA gear.

"You know, Americans go big, go home kind of deal, right? So I was like, well, if I'm going to go out, I got to go out with something, you know, big, and here I am," said one fan, decked out in American flag-themed overalls.

Another visitor called it a once-in-a-lifetime experience that she's "been waiting a year and a half for, so I'm so excited to be here. I've been learning my French, I've been preparing for the Games, got my team outfit and I'm really proud to be here."

One young spectator said she enjoyed the unique setting for the ceremony.

"I like how everybody's going on the water and everything like that," she said.

What a show. So historic, unlike any opening ceremony we've seen before.
