PARIS, France — The Paris 2024 Olympics are underway in France, and Hoosier athletes are already competing to represent Team USA. In fact, the first two medals the United States won came from Indiana athletes.
Here is how the athletes with Indiana connections did on Saturday, Aug. 10:
Brandon Loschiavo
Brandon Loschiavo, who went to Purdue University, competed in the 10m platform diving event.
In the semifinal, Loschiavo finished 17th with a score of 372.45. The top 12 advanced to the final.
In the preliminary round, Loschiavo finished 13th with a score of 393.65, making him one of 18 to advance to the semifinal.
Loschiavo was added to Team USA on the day of the Opening Ceremony due to a last-minute withdrawal.
Devynne Charlton
Devynne Charlton, who went to Purdue University, competed in the 100m hurdles.
Charlton finished sixth in the final with a time of 12.56 seconds, which was 0.23 seconds behind gold medalist Masai Russell, of the United States.
Representing the Bahamas, Charlton finished second in the first semifinal with a time of 12.50 seconds.
Tyrese Haliburton
Indiana Pacers' All-Star Tyrese Haliburton was part of the U.S. men's basketball team.
The Americans won the gold medal with a 98-87 win over France. Haliburton did not play in the game.
The U.S. went undefeated in group play, beating Serbia 110-84, South Sudan 103-86 and Puerto Rico 104-83.
In the quarterfinals, the U.S. beat Brazil 122-87. Haliburton played 8 minutes and scored 2 points.
The U.S. came back to beat Serbia 95-91 in the semifinals. Haliburton did not play in the game.
