INDIANAPOLIS — The Paris 2024 Olympics are underway in France, and Hoosier athletes are already competing to represent Team USA. In fact, the first two medals the United States won came from Indiana athletes.
Here is how the athletes with Indiana connections did on Friday, Aug. 2:
Tyler Downs
Purdue University's Tyler Downs competed in the synchronized 3m springboard diving event alongside fellow Boilermaker Greg Duncan.
The American duo finished eighth with a score of 346.08, which was 92.07 points behind bronze medalists Great Britain. China won the event with a score of 446.10.
Greg Duncan

Cole Hocker
Indianapolis native and Cathedral High School graduate Cole Hocker is competing in the 1500m run.
Hocker finished second in his heat with a time of 3:35.27, which was .06 seconds behind the winner of the heat. The top six in each heat advanced to the semifinals, which are scheduled for 3:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 4. The event will be available to stream on Peacock.
Yared Nuguse
University of Notre Dame graduate Yared Nuguse is competing in the 1500m run.
Nuguse finished fifth in his heat with a time of 3:36.56, which was 0.73 seconds behind the winner of the heat. The top six in each heat advanced to the semifinals, which are scheduled for 3:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 4. The event will be available to stream on Peacock.
Allie Wilson
Allie Wilson, who trains in Indianapolis, is competing in the 800m run.
Wilson finished sixth in her heat with a time of 1:59.69. The top three in each heat advanced to the semifinals, and Wilson will next compete in the repechage round at 5:20 a.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 3. The event will be available to stream on Peacock.
The semifinals are then scheduled for 2:35 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 4. The event will be available to stream on Peacock.
Chukwuebuka Enekwechi
Purdue University graduate Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is representing Nigeria in the shot put event.
Enekwechi qualified for the final as one of the 12 best performers with a distance of 21.13 meters.
The final is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 3. The event will be available to stream on Peacock.
Enekwechi finished 12th in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the shot put.
Matt Anderson
Zionsville's Matt Anderson is hoping to bring home another medal in men's volleyball. He won bronze in the 2020 Olympics.
The U.S. beat Japan 3-1: 25-16, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19. Anderson had 16 points in the win.
The quarterfinals for men's volleyball begin at 3 a.m. ET Monday, Aug. 5.
The U.S. beat Argentina 3-0 in their first match, with Anderson scoring 7 points. In their second match, the U.S. beat Germany in five sets, with Anderson scoring 14 points in the win.
Chase Budinger
Chase Budinger, who played for the Indiana Pacers in the 2015-2016 season, is competing in the beach volleyball competition.
Alongside partner Miles Evans, the U.S. duo lost to Spain in two sets: 21-18, 21-11. The duo finished 1-2 in Pool F play.
Budinger and Evans won their first match against France in two sets on Monday, July 29, followed by a loss Tuesday, July 30 in two sets to The Netherlands.
Trey Lyles
Trey Lyles, who grew up in Indianapolis and went to Arsenal Tech High School, is representing Canada at the Olympics.
The Canadian team beat Spain 88-85. Lyles had 3 points in the win.
The quarterfinals of men's basketball begin at 5 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Canada beat Greece 86-79 and Australia 93-83 in group play.
Andrew Nembhard
Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard is representing Canada at the Olympics.
The Canadian team beat Spain 88-85. Nembhard had 18 points in the win.

Canyon Barry
Fort Wayne native Canyon Barry is competing in the men's 3x3 basketball event.
The Americans won their first game Friday afternoon against France 21-19. Barry had 16 points in the win. That same afternoon, the Americans won again, beating China 21-17. Barry had 14 points in the win.
On Sunday, Aug. 4, the U.S. plays its final Pool Round game against the Netherlands at 1:05 p.m. ET. The game will air on E!
The U.S. has lost games to Serbia, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.
