Local dancers keep eye on breaking's Olympics debut

While dancers from around the world competed in Paris, they were inspiring break dancing students right here in central Indiana.

FISHERS, Ind. — Breaking made its Olympic debut Friday in Paris.

While dancers from around the world competed in Paris, they were inspiring break dancing students right here in central Indiana.

Keegan Loye founded 31Svn Street Dance Academy in Fishers in 2017. For seven years, students have learned hip hop, pop and break dancing from local experts. These dancers have competed in many local events, like the street dance competition at the Indiana State Fair.

Now, these students can dream even bigger — all the way up to the Olympics.

"It's a beautiful thing to see it first and foremost, just because it's a celebration of hip hop culture. This is something that's been decades in the making," said Loye.

He said Indiana is poised to make an appearance on the big stage.

"We have a lot of different styles," Loye said. "It's a little young, but it's very talented and very hungry."
