PARIS, France — Chloé Dygert is leaving the Paris Olympics with not one medal, but two. And the newest one is gold.
The Brownsburg rider teamed with Jennifer Valente, Lily Williams and Kristen Faulkner to win track cycling’s team pursuit Wednesday night in the Paris Olympics velodrome at Montigny-Le-Bretonneux, France.
The Americans’ time was 4:04.306, just off the world record of 4:04.242 set by Germany at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
In the final, they were paired against New Zealand, whose time was 4:04.927.
Faulkner, 31, was gold medalist in the road race. She is an Alaskan who was a rower at Harvard and did not begin competitive cycling until seven years ago.
It was the second Paris medal for Dygert, 27, and fourth of her career. She won a bronze in the individual time trial July 27 and has three team pursuit medals: silver in 2016, bronze in 2021 and now gold in 2024.
The only other Hoosier women with as many as four Olympic medals are swimmers Lilly King of Evansville, with six from 2016, 2021 and 2024, and Kathy Ellis of Indianapolis with four in 1964.
“I think USA Cycling has put a lot of work and time into this event specifically.” Dygert said. “When I came into the program in 2016, this was the medal that USA Cycling had wanted more than any other. This has been the focus from the beginning of my career.”
Dygert has said she wants to race in seven Olympics. She is just two short of the record six medals by a female cyclist, shared by Great Britain’s Laura Kenny and Australia’s Anne Meares.
The United States has medaled in team pursuit in all four Olympics in which it has been on the program.
The Americans advanced to the gold-medal final with a time of 4:04.629, beating Great Britain by just 0.29 seconds.
