With shoulder rehab 'on schedule,' Colts QB Richardson hopes to begin throwing sometime in January

Anthony Richardson joined other players in a visit to Riley Hospital for Children Tuesday.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts made a stop at Riley Hospital for Children Tuesday for a visit with the kids ahead of Christmas.

They put down their playbooks and picked up their caroling books. Players and cheerleaders sang holiday favorites at the hospital.

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was among the visitors. He signed autographs and stopped by some rooms, playing video games with the kids.

"Just putting a smile on people's faces on the daily," Richardson said. "That's my mindset. That's my goal, to make somebody smile each and every day. Luckily, I had the opportunity to come here, meet some cool kids. Play 'NBA Live' and lose to that ... lose to somebody in that (game), but it's a blessing just to come here and just have the ability to make someone smile."

Richardson had an operation on his shoulder in October.

"It's been up and down for me a little bit," Richardson said. "I love playing football. I never missed a season in my whole career, just playing football, and this is something new for me, a new experience, but it's allowing me to learn more about myself, to learn more about the game and learn more about the people I do have in the building. It's opening my eyes to a lot of different things that I didn't have time to sit there and see and take in."

"I'm looking at the bright side of this rehab and this injury that I have, but at least I was able to come put a smile on somebody's face today despite what they're going through because my little shoulder is not anything compared to what they're going through," Richardson said.

According to Richardson, his rehab is on schedule, and he hopes to start throwing in January. For now, he's enjoying watching his teammates make a run for a playoff berth.

"When I got here, that was my whole mindset," Richardson said. "Playoff, playoff, playoff, so we could have a shot to win the Super Bowl. The guys, they've been going crazy. Gardner's been going crazy. The defense has been going crazy. The other guys are stepping in to play. They've been making plays. It's not surprising to me. They do a great job with them preparing each and every week."
