ESPN: Anthony Richardson will 'probably' miss rest of regular season after impending shoulder surgery, Irsay says

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay told ESPN the rookie quarterback will likely undergo surgery on his throwing shoulder in the next week.

INDIANAPOLIS — Anthony Richardson will "probably" miss the rest of his rookie season after an upcoming shoulder surgery, according to ESPN.

Colts owner Jim Irsay reportedly told the network Richardson could undergo surgery on his throwing shoulder in the next week. He injured the shoulder during the Colts' Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 8.

NFL Network reported last week that the team and their rookie quarterback sought several opinions on how they should proceed with Richardson's strained AC joint.

Irsay told ESPN the recommendations pointed toward surgery for Richardson.

"The most likelihood is he's probably going to be gone for the year," Irsay told the network. "I mean, it's not definite but [he] probably misses this year and we're going to have to contend with that factor."

Richardson was placed on the injured reserve list after the game against Tennessee. Gardner Minshew threw three interceptions and lost a fumble in Sunday's 37-20 loss at Jacksonville.

Irsay said the final decision on surgery will be left to Richardson and his advisors.

Richardson was injured on a 4-yard run with 4:29 left in the first half against the Titans when he fell awkwardly to the ground with two Titans draped around him.

Richardson stayed down for several minutes before walking slowly to the injury tent, his shoulder noticeably drooping to the right side. After several more minutes in the injury tent, he headed to the locker room with the team's medical staff.

Richardson has thrown for 577 yards and three touchdowns in five games for the Colts, who are now 3-3 on the season. They host the Cleveland Browns Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
