Irsay: Richardson has successful surgery on injured shoulder

Richardson injured his right throwing shoulder during the Colts' Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 8.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson had successful surgery on his injured shoulder Tuesday, team owner Jim Irsay announced.

Irsay posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Richardson underwent the procedure in Los Angeles, and his shoulder had been repaired.

"No new surprises were found during surgery - they just repaired what was expected," Irsay wrote.

Irsay said Richardson was doing well following the surgery, but no date has been set for his return.

Richardson injured his right throwing shoulder during the Colts' Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans on Oct. 8.

The rookie quarterback was injured on a 4-yard run with 4:29 left in the first half against the Titans when he fell awkwardly to the ground with two Titans draped around him.

Richardson stayed down for several minutes before walking slowly to the injury tent, his shoulder noticeably drooping to the right side. After several more minutes in the injury tent, he headed to the locker room with the team's medical staff.

Richardson was placed on the injured reserve list after the game against Tennessee.

Gardner Minshew took over as Colts quarterback, throwing three interceptions and losing a fumble in a 37-20 loss at Jacksonville, then rushing for two touchdowns Sunday in a 39-38 loss to Cleveland at Lucas Oil Stadium. He threw touchdown passes of 59 yards to Josh Downs and 75 yards to Michael Pittman Jr., but lost three fumbles on strip-sacks, one of which Cleveland recovered for a touchdown, and threw an interception.

The Colts fell to 3-4 on the season with the loss.

In his five games with the Colts, Richardson threw for 577 yards and three touchdowns.
