Inside the Huddle: Colts must keep chipping away

Four of the Colts' next five games are on the road.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts have lost three games in a row. This week on "Inside the Huddle," Dave Calabro asked defensive lineman DeForest Buckner about how that's affecting the team's attitude.

"Yeah, like you said, we've lost three in a row. The guys know what we need to do. It's the little things, the details. You know, we're in every game. We just need to finish. I mean, it starts with today, you know what I'm saying?" Buckner said. "We gotta walk through today, and the guys gotta be on the details and on their jobs. Yeah, I just got to keep chipping away one day at a time."

It's a tough situation. We asked Buckner how teammates approach the younger players who haven't been through it before.

"You know, we're at the halfway point," Buckner said. "Obviously, we're not where we want to be, but we've got two more weeks to the bye and, you know, we can knock these two games out and go into the bye .500, you know what I'm saying, and take off from there. So, you know, the best teams play their best ball in November and December, and that's what we gotta start doing."

Four of the next five upcoming games are on the road, beginning Sunday with the Carolina Panthers, who just got their first win. They're playing at home, and they're going to be confident.

"Definitely, they're gonna be confident. They're back at home, got their first win. You know, there's gonna be a lot of energy. Watching the film, I mean, you know, they do some great things, you know what I'm saying, and we just, we can't take them lightly just because of their record. We gotta go in there, it's gonna be a hostile environment. We're going against a staff that, you know, knows us pretty well, you know what I mean, with (head coach) Frank (Reich) and his staff, so we gotta be on the details," Buckner said.

Buckner had some high praise for Frank Reich, his former coach.

"I mean, Frank was amazing, you know what I mean? He's an amazing man," Buckner said. "When I came in, just the way he embraced me onto the team. I got baptized back in 2020, and he was there, you know what I mean, for the baptism. I never expected any of my coaches to be there, and for the head coach to take the time out of the day for something real important to me and my family, I mean, that meant a lot to me, and we still have a great connection."

Each Wednesday on Inside the Huddle, we'll have the Riley Kid of the Week.

"The Riley Kid of the Week is Londyn Hoffman. She's from Carmel, and she beat cancer twice, so I just want to say keep fighting and congratulations to you, Londyn!" Buckner said.

Inside the Huddle is brought to you by Republic Airways Lift Academy. Each week, Republic makes a donation to Riley Hospital for Children in honor of DeForest Buckner.
