Buckner says Colts seek to 'stay focused and stay on course'

The Colts play the Bengals in Cincinnati Sunday.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman DeForest Buckner joined 13 Sports director Dave Calabro this week for Inside the Huddle.

The Colts are rolling right now. With five games remaining in the season, the team holds a playoff spot. Buckner said it's important to take things one game at a time.

"I mean, obviously, we just got to take it week to week. The biggest thing this week is obviously the Cincinnati Bengals, and, you know, it doesn't matter what we did the previous weeks, we just gotta continue to stay focused and stay on course," Buckner said.

Speaking of the Bengals, they won on Monday Night Football with a backup quarterback and have some momentum right now.

"They're a great team, obviously, it was a big loss with them losing Joe Burrow, but they've had a tough schedule as well so far. Obviously, they had Baltimore twice on their schedule, they beat the 'Niners earlier this year, a really convincing win. The backup, Jake Browning, he is playing some really good ball for them," Bucker said. "They've got some elite talent on offense and defensively, so it's going to be a hard-fought game, it's gonna be kind of that one-step-at-a-time mentality."

The Colts defense is playing at a high level right now, especially when it comes to sacks. They're second in the NFL right now.

"Obviously, the guys are really getting after it and, obviously, all the hard work that you've been putting in the offseason and over the years and, obviously, coaching-wise, too. I mean, it's all coming into fruition, and everybody's having a fun time getting to the quarterback," Buckner said.

And more help is on the way as defensive tackle Grover Stewart returns to the lineup this week.

"Obviously, losing Grove for those six games was a big loss for us defensively, but having him back in the groove is gonna definitely be a nice, warm welcome we're gonna have for him," Buckner said.
