Game Blog: Colts get first win 31-28 over Browns

The Indianapolis Colts held on for their first win of the season 31 to 28 over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Despite several penalties on the defense in the fourth quarter the Colts were able to hold on for their first win 31 to 28 over the Cleveland Browns.

4:10 p.m.
Helped by another penalty on the Colts defense to keep a driver alive the Browns drive down the field and get in the end zone again to get within three points 31 to 28 with two minutes to go in the game. The Browns are out of time outs.

3:53 p.m. The Browns are able to drive down with some help from the Colts penalties and score on an 11-yard pass from Kizer to Britt to get the score to 31 to 21 with 7:04 to go in the game. Cleveland attempts an on side kick on the kick-off that is no successful and the Colts start with the ball at the Cleveland 47 yard line.


3:34 p.m. The Colts offense gets stopped and has to settle for a 33-yard field goal by Vinatieri to make it 31 to 14 with 10:18 to go in the game.


3:25 p.m. Colts get the ball back on another interception by Melvin.


3:09 p.m. Colts not able to move the ball for a first down so punt to the Browns who start on their own 30-yard line.

3:01 p.m. Colts defense makes a stop getting a turnover on a Kizer interceptiion and the Indianapolis offense takes over at thier own 10-yard with 8:27 left in the third quarter.


2:49 p.m. The Colts get the ball to start the second half and the Browns sails into the end zone and the Colts start at their 25 yard line.

2:33 p.m. Cleveland takes the ball after the Colts score and drives down the field with a mix of passes and runs to get in the end zone and make it 28 to 14 as the first half winds down.

2:19 p.m. The Colts drive again this time helped by a couple of penalties on the Browns and finished off with a 4-yard run by Frank Gore to go up 28 to 7 with 2:46 left before half time.


2:11 p.m. Indianapolis had to start deep in their own end after a punt by the Browns pinned them inside the five-yard line. Brissett finds Hilton downfield for a 61-yard pass and a touchdown with 5:27 left in the second quarter to put the Colts up by 14.


1:50 p.m. The Colts got the ball back after the score by Cleveland and Jacoby Brissett scrambled into the end zone again from 7 yards out to give the Colts the lead again with 10:15 left in the second quarter.

1:46 p.m. Cleveland gets the ball back after the Colts score and goes on a long drive of their own to tie the score at 7 as the second quarter gets started.

1:40 p.m. Colts get on the scoreboard with a 70 yard drive ending in a five yard run by Jacoby Brissett to put the Colts up 7 - 0 over the Browns as the first quarter winds down.

1:19 p.m. So far it has been a defensive battle as neither offense has been able to move the ball as the Colts start their second possession of the day.

1:05 p.m. Colts defense holds Cleveland to a three and out and get the ball on their 20-yard after a punt from the Browns to get their first drive started.

1:00 p.m. Colts kick off to the Browns to get the game and ball comes out to the 25-yard line after a touch back in the end zone.

12:55 p.m. Indianapolis Colts players stood in unity with arms locked while some of the Cleveland Browns took a knee during the national anthem before the game.

ORIGINAL : INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - All eyes will be on the sidelines as the Indianapolis Colts host the Cleveland Browns Sunday afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium as the controversy over President Trump's comments and tweets this weekend about players kneeling during the national anthem reaches a peak. In an early game Sunday morning in London about two dozen players from Jacksonville and Baltimore knelt during the national anthem.
