Game Blog | Colts hang on to beat Dolphins 16-10 after clutch defensive stand

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts host the Miami Dolphins during Week 7 of the NFL season.

Quarterback Anthony Richardson missed an opportunity to play in front of his hometown fans two weeks ago when the Colts played at Jacksonville.

He now gets a second chance to face a home-state team as the Dolphins visit Indy.

Coach Shane Steichen said Friday that Richardson was set to return after missing the last two games with a right hip injury. It wasn't a surprise given that Richardson had practiced all week.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Keep it here all game long for live updates as they happen.

FOURTH QUARTER

• FINAL: Colts 16, Dolphins 10
• 0:07 — Tim Boyle has to throw it away on fourth down, sealing the game for the Colts.
• 0:29 — With the clock running, Tim Boyle finds De'Von Achane, who tries to get out of bounds, but Jones and Kenny Moore will not let him! Boyle has to spike the ball to stop the clock.
• 1:06 — Tim Boyle scrambles on 3rd and 3 for a 4-yard gain and a first down. The Dolphins have no timeouts left and are now racing the clock.
• 1:10 — On 2nd and 10, Boyle passes to Washington for a gain of 7.
• 1:24 — Boyle finds Smith for a 10-yard gain on 2nd and 2.
• 1:51 — Tim Boyle and the Dolphins line up at their own 30-yard line after the kickoff. Boyle finds Hill for an 8-yard gain.
• 1:55 — Trey Sermon runs up the middle for a gain of 4. The Dolphins call a timeout and Matt Gay lines up for a 38-yard field goal. His kick is good and the Colts extend their lead to six.

• 2:00 — After two straight failed running plays, it's 3rd and 12 at the two-minute warning. The Colts are at the Dolphins 24-yard line.
• 3:36 — A designed quarterback run sees Anthony Richardson run for an 8-yard gain and a first down.
• 3:42 — On second down, Anthony Richardson runs left for a 1-yard gain.
• 4:27 — Anthony Richardson passes again, this time to Alec Pierce for a 5-yard gain.
• 4:34 — Anthony Richardson takes the snap out of the shotgun and finds Michael Pittman Jr. for a 21-yard gain and a first down!
• 5:14 — The Colts take over at their own 44-yard line. Tyler Goodson runs left, but is stopped in the backfield for a short loss.
• 5:19 — The Dolphins line up for a 54-yard field goal. Jason Sanders' kick has enough leg behind it, but it doinks off the upright and is no good!
• 6:03 — On 3rd and 1, the Colts defense comes up with a huge stop to force a Dolphins fourth down.
• 8:41 — The Dolphins take over at their own 23-yard line after Matt Gay's kickoff. Dolphins receiver Braxton Berrios is injured on the play.
• 8:44 — The Colts line up to go for it on fourth down, but Mike McDaniel calls a timeout instead. Matt Gay comes out for a field goal attempt, nails it, and gives the Colts their first lead of the game.

• 8:51 — On 3rd and Goal, Anthony Richardson tries to run it himself, but the Dolphins put pressure on him, forcing him to scramble out of the pocket before throwing an incomplete pass to Josh Downs.
• 10:13 — Now with 1st and Goal, Anthony Richardson keeps it and runs for a 4-yard gain.
• 10:52 — On 2nd and 4, Trey Sermon gets the call to get the Colts into scoring territory with a 7-yard gain.
• 12:16 — Trey Sermon gets the call and busts through the Dolphins line for an 11-yard gain and another Colts first down.
• 12:56 — On third down, Anthony Richardson passes to Alec Pierce, who goes up for the grab and comes down with it for a 10-yard gain and a first down.
• 13:35 — Tyler Goodson gets the handoff this time, but he's stopped in the backfield for a short loss.
• 14:15 — Trey Sermon gets the call and runs for a 3-yard gain on first down.
• 15:00 — The Colts open the fourth quarter with a trick play! It works well and Anthony Richardson is able to hit Trey Sermon for a 13-yard gain and a first down.

THIRD QUARTER

• 0:18 — The Colts take over at their own 27-yard line. Out of the shotgun, Richardson finds Adonai Mitchell for a 16-yard gain. The clock runs out on the third quarter.
• 0:35 — Now the Colts defense forces a Dolphins three-and-out after Boyle's pass for Achane is incomplete on third down. Josh Downs returns the punt for 11 yards.
• 1:25 — Rigoberto Sanchez punts once again. As the Dolphins take over, De'Von Achane gets the call for the Dolphins, but Grover Stewart stops him in the backfield for a short loss.
• 1:36 — The Dolphins defense forces a Colts three-and-out after Richardson's pass to Josh Downs is broken up.
• 2:17 — Tyler Goodson gets the call again and runs for a gain of 2 yards.
• 2:56 — Tyler Goodson runs left for a 4 yard gain.
• 2:52 — The Dolphins fumble again! It's recovered by the Colts at their own 14-yard line.
• 3:43 — On third down, Tim Boyle passes to Jonnu Smith for a 12 yard gain and a Dolphins first down.
• 5:43 — Jaylen Wright breaks free for a big 19-yard gain. 
• 6:27 — Rigoberto Sanchez punts once again. The Dolphins announce Tyler Huntley is now questionable to return with an injury to his throwing shoulder. Tim Boyle is now in at quarterback for the Dolphins.

• 6:33 — Jalen Ramsey hits Anthony Richardson as he throws. The ball falls incomplete, but some confusion arises with some believing it is a fumble. The pass is ruled incomplete, bringing up fourth down.
• 6:48 — Anthony Richardson faces significant pressure and throws the ball away to avoid a sack.
• 7:29 — The Colts take over at their own 15-yard line. Anthony Richardson scrambles for a 1-yard gain.
• 7:44 — Tyler Huntley's pass falls incomplete, bringing up fourth down and another Dolphins punt.
• 8:28 — Tyler Huntley is sacked for a loss of four yards.

• 0:09 — Tyler Goodson runs up the middle for a 3-yard gain as the Colts call a timeout to set up for a field goal attempt.
• 0:16 — Anthony Richardson hurls a deep pass to Michael Pittman Jr, who's able to make the catch for a 33-yard gain. 
• 0:22 — Out of the shotgun, Anthony Richardson finds a wide-open Alec Pierce, but Pierce cannot haul it in.
• 0:22 — The Dolphins kick a 33-yard field goal to extend their lead before halftime.
