Decatur Central and Purdue alum Tyrone Tracy Jr. selected by New York Giants in 5th round of 2024 NFL Draft

Tracy has played running back for most of his career, but has also been used as a wide receiver and kick returner.

DETROIT — A local high school and college football star has been selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. was selected by the New York Giants with the 166th overall pick in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. Tracy played running back at Decatur Central High School where he racked up 3,525 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns during his varsity career, according to MaxPreps

After transferring from Iowa to Purdue following the 2021 season, he appeared in 25 games for the Boilermakers, scoring 854 total rushing yards off 130 attempts. 

Tracy was named Academic All-Big Ten and was named to the Second Team All-Big Ten in 2023. 

On social media, the Giants posted a video of Tracy receiving the phone call to inform him that the team had chosen to draft him. In the video, Tracy was visibly emotional. 

Tracy has played running back for most of his career, but has also been used as a wide receiver and kick returner. 

As with most NFL draftees, Tracy has not yet signed a rookie contract with the Giants.
