INDIANA, USA — The seventh week of NCAA and NAIA football for teams based in the state of Indiana was a bit of a mixed bag. Some teams continued their winning streaks while others have now posted consecutive losses.
In Division I FBS, Indiana, Purdue and Ball State suffered embarrassing blowouts while the No. 21 Notre Dame Fighting Irish managed to score an upset win over No. 10 USC.
FCS teams Butler, Indiana State and Valparaiso all suffered losses on Saturday. Butler's four-game winning streak was snapped after a late rally fell short with a missed field goal as time expired.
The UIndy Greyhounds, the lone Division II football program in the state, stayed undefeated and moved to 6-0 win a win over No. 19 Truman State.
Division III teams held the status quo in week seven. The teams that are hot stayed hot while the teams that have struggled continued their losing streaks. The DePauw Tigers (7-0) stayed undefeated with their rout of Wooster. The Franklin Grizzlies and Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers both scored week seven wins as the two teams ready themselves to meet next week.
The Hanover Panthers (5-1) stayed hot with a win over the winless Manchester Spartans (0-6). The Trine Thunder returned to their winning ways with a victory over Olivet and the Wabash Little Giants lost for the first time this season to a Division III opponent with a narrow defeat to Denison.
The only NAIA team that did not post a win during week seven was the Taylor Trojans. The Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats (7-0) and the Marian Knights (6-0) both continued their undefeated seasons with respective wins over Madonna and Concordia. The St. Francis Cougars scored their fourth win in a row Saturday with a blowout win over Lawrence Tech.
