INDIANAPOLIS — It's nearly tournament time in college basketball, and several Indiana women's teams have a chance to make the Big Dance.
Here's a look at where Indiana's Division I women's basketball teams stand heading into March Madness (updated March 15):
In
Indiana - The No. 15 Hoosiers have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament, but their seeding may have taken a hit with a 69-56 loss to sixth-seeded Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals Friday.
ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme has Indiana as a No. 4 seed, facing Chattanooga on the Hoosiers' home court at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, which would host first- and second-round games if IU holds its seed. The top 16 seeds overall when the tournament field is announced March 17 will host the first- and second-round games.
Before the loss to Michigan, Indiana had a NET ranking of 12. On Monday, March 11, they had dropped two spots to No. 14 in the NET, though Creme still has them projected as a No. 4 seed playing in Bloomington.
Notre Dame - The No. 9 Irish earned the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, then went out and won the whole thing.
Not only did Notre Dame's NET ranking climb one position, but they shot up five spots in the new AP poll. Creme also raised the Irish in his projected bracket, bumping them up one seed to a No. 3 seed playing at home in the South Bend subregional. Notre Dame would play Marshall in Creme's most recent projection.
Season's over
Purdue - The Boilermakers' season ended Thursday with a 64-56 loss to Nebraska in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.
Ball State - The Cardinals finished the regular season at 27-4, but their 16-2 conference mark wasn't quite enough to catch the 17-1 Toledo Rockets, who head into the Mid-American Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Winning the MAC tourney was Ball State's only shot at making the NCAA Tournament, but that pursuit came up short Friday with a 65-50 loss to No. 3 seed Kent State in the semifinals.
The Cardinals will likely continue their season in a postseason tournament, but won't be making their first trip to the Big Dance since 2009.
Butler - The Bulldogs' season ended Friday, March 8 with a 75-60 loss to Providence in the Big East Tournament.
IUPUI - The Jaguars' season came to an end with a 73-50 loss to Youngstown State in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament.
Evansville - The Purple Aces lost to Illinois State Thursday afternoon in the opener of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Thursday, ending their season.
Purdue Fort Wayne - The Mastodons defeated Detroit Mercy to open the Horizon League Tournament, but fell to second-seeded Green Bay in the semifinals.
Valparaiso - Valparaiso lost to UIC Thursday, bringing their season to an end.
