INDIANAPOLIS — The UIndy Greyhounds are moving on in the NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament.
The Greyhounds defeated the William Jewell Cardinals 71-65 on Saturday to punch their ticket to the second round of the DII tournament. They will play the winner of the Northern Michigan/Ferris State game at 5 p.m. Sunday at Nicoson Hall on UIndy's campus.
William Jewell kept the game close in the opening minutes, but a series of quick scores off turnovers and rebounds put UIndy ahead as the first half progressed. The Greyhounds ended the first half with a commanding 42-26 lead after pulling away late in the first half.
In the second half, the Cardinals pressed hard, outscoring the Greyhounds by ten points. However, the large lead that UIndy built up in the first half helped the Greyhounds hold off the Cardinals to secure the victory.
UIndy guard Jarvis Walker led the team in scoring, putting up 23 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Kendrick Tchoua had the second most points for the Greyhounds, scoring 12 after going 4-5 from the field. Tchoua also had 8 rebounds.
Jordan Jermain led scoring for the Cardinals with 20 points, 6 rebounds and one assist.
