INDIANAPOLIS — Monday tips the Horizon League Basketball Championship. Four men's and four women's teams will compete for the championship, and for the fifth year in a row, the games are held in Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
"Every year it's just been bigger and better and the Indy crowds have really embraced the Horizon League," commissioner Julie Roe Lach said.
Monday afternoon, March 11, the women's games begin when No. 1 Cleveland State takes on No. 4 Wright State. Green Bay will play against Purdue Fort Wayne in the following game.
It is then the men's turn later that night. No. 1 Oakland and No. 7 Cleveland State will compete followed by Northern Kentucky and Milwaukee.
But for the league, it's much more than the game.
"The other big piece here is we want it to be a strong community event so we've added amplifying events in and around the championships," Roe Lach said.
Basketball fans can visit the fan zone, Women's Day Celebration, School Day and even celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Secret Game. The events will highlight today's players and Indiana's basketball history.
"I think this is were we grow basketball because you see that people just love this sport," Roe Lach said.
Semifinals will begin Monday at noon with the championship games starting Tuesday at noon.
