INDIANAPOLIS — Looking at Indy's Home Court map, it may be difficult to keep track of when and where everything is. But many local volunteers have memorized it to help you get around downtown during NBA All-Star Weekend.
One group is Downtown Indy, Inc.'s Safety Ambassadors.
You'll see them wearing bright red jackets.
"We will be patrolling around the Wholesale District area downtown, around hotels, helping our commuters and out-of-towners," safety ambassador Scott Person said.
Ambassadors will be in the high-traffic areas downtown to make sure you get everywhere safely.
"We know that our public safety officials will be incredibly busy throughout the weekend, so our safety ambassadors, as they do 365 days a year, will provide a friendly face to people exploring downtown," said Taylor Schaffer, CEO of Downtown Indy, Inc.
But they aren't the only ones there to help. A group of Butler students will serve as a welcome committee. They are taking a class where their homework is all about All-Star Weekend.
"We are going to be here to answer any questions we possibly can. We will be trying to help them and also enjoy this incredible experience," said Ethan Polak, one of the Butler students. "Just being able to see this all come to life is incredible."
This weekend, they'll put their All-Star knowledge to the test.
"These Butler students and these classes, getting to be a part of this is just one more example of what makes Indianapolis so special around big events like this," Schaffer said.
The goal for all of these volunteers? To make sure this weekend is a slam dunk.
