INDIANAPOLIS — Music is a big part of this much-anticipated weekend in Indianapolis, with several concerts happening over the next few days.
The stars showed up big time for the 17th annual All-Star Gospel Celebration at the Madam Walker Legacy Center. They said there was no better way to kick off NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
"300 parties taking off, but we are the only party lifting up the name of Jesus. To us, that's very important," All-Star Gospel Celebration founder Tameka Holyfield said.
Fans packed the annual event for a good time and to hear some of their favorite gospel artists.
The stars hoped to show that NBA All-Star Weekend can be about more than just basketball.
"I'm humbled and honored that God has opened this door to be able to express my art and my passion for the Lord, and also for hoops," said Andy Riemersma, NBA G League chaplain.
"Even when you are at the highest of heights, the only thing that is sustainable is our faith," former NBA player Maurice Evans said.
"I think once we recognize Him and give Him the glory, everything falls into place," actor and comedian Mike Epps said.
Besides the Grammy Award-winning performers, they also paid tribute to NBA players and community leaders, like Epps and his wife, Kyra, for the work they do making the community better.
"It feels so great to be able to set an example to other couples and people that if you start something and finish it, rewards are on the way," Kyra Epps said.
