INDIANAPOLIS — More Indiana talent will be on display during NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin was named Tuesday to the roster for the Panini Rising Stars competition at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Feb. 16. He is joined by former Purdue star Jaden Ivey and Oscar Tshiebwe of the Indiana Mad Ants in the NBA G League.
Indiana Fever legend Tamika Catchings and former Pacers stars Jalen Rose and Detlef Schrempf will serve as coaches for the mini-tournament, alongside Hall of Famer Pau Gasol.
The 21 NBA players picked, comprised of first- and second-year players, will be split into three teams, which will be coached by Catchings, Rose and Gasol. Schrempf will coach the seven NBA G League players at the event.
The four teams will be paired in semifinal games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Feb. 16, with the championship game to follow. All three games will air live on TNT starting at 9 p.m. EST.
Mathurin, the Pacers' sixth pick overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, is averaging 14.3 points and nearly 4 rebounds per game this season. He was named to the NBA's All-Rookie Team last year and helped Gasol's team win the Rising Stars title, alongside Pacers teammate Andrew Nembhard.
Tshiebwe has played six games with the Pacers this season, averaging 3.5 points and 2 rebounds while playing about six minutes per game off the bench. The undrafted rookie from the University of Kentucky will play on the NBA G League roster in the Rising Stars tournament.
Ivey, a South Bend native, is averaging nearly identical stats to Mathurin in his second season with the Detroit Pistons. He was picked fifth overall in the 2022 NBA Draft after two seasons at Purdue. He's averaging 14.4 points and 14.1 rebounds in 20 games with the Mad Ants this season. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie second team in 2023.
The semifinal games in the tournament will be played to 40 points, with the first team in the final to reach 25 points taking home the championship.
