INDIANAPOLIS — It was the coldest day of the week to start off NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, but fans bundled up and packed downtown Indianapolis ready for basketball.
For some fans, Saturday was the first day they got out to enjoy the All-Star activities, loading up their schedules at Circle Centre Mall, the convention center and Lucas Oil Stadium.
Seeing fans from far away enjoying the Circle City makes All-Star Weekend even more exciting for some Hoosiers.
"I think it's great. I'm excited to have it here and be able to experience this. I always wanted to do this or the Super Bowl," Austin Miller said.
"The capability to host an event like this is a huge opportunity. I feel like personally, Indy has done a pretty good ordeal," Tommy Martin said.
Helping to make this all run smoothly were IMPD officers patroling the streets to make sure fans stayed safe.
"Plans are going well. Throughout the entire event, we will constantly look at those plans and make adjustments, if needed," IMPD Lt. Shane Foley said. "Part of those plans includes added patrols, a lot of extra officers being visible, and traffic safety plans, working with state and federal partners, mounted patrol bike units."
