INDIANAPOLIS — The National Basketball Association crowned the winners of its 2024 NBA Foundation All-Star Pitch Competition Saturday.
During the NBA 2024 All-Star Weekend in downtown Indianapolis, the NBA worked to shine a spotlight on companies led by diverse and innovative technology entrepreneurs through a "pitching" competition.
Each person pitched their ideas in front of a panel of celebrities like WNBA legend Tamika Catchings, rapper 50 Cent and NBA legend Jalen Rose.
"I appreciated the dynamics of what each wanted to accomplish to elevate their community," said Jalen Rose when asked about the ideas pitched.
Seven Indiana-based entrepreneurs made it to the Finals on Saturday at the Indiana Convention Center.
Katara McCarty with "Exhale" was awarded $75,000 for her first-place finish. Jessica Bussert was awarded $50,000 for her second-place finish. Finally, George Wang with "Civic Champs" was awarded with $25,000 for his third-place finish.
"To be able to win in my home state, I've lived here my whole life, feels really good. I don't think I have the words to express all of that," said McCarty.
Second place finisher Jessica Bussert said she was happy to share her message.
"I think it's my biggest job to share the message of what we are doing, it's literally life saving technology, so I grab every mic I can." said Bussert.
