INDIANAPOLIS — Zach Edey was back in Indiana Monday night and once again put together a dominating performance on the basketball court.
With most of the stars on the bench for both teams, Edey scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Memphis to a 120-116 preseason win over Indiana at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The game was Edey's first professional game in the state where he earned two national player of the year awards at Purdue.
Edey shot 10 of 15 from the floor against the Pacers in less than 19 minutes of game action. The ninth overall pick in this year's NBA draft is averaging 13.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in four preseason games.
The Pacers, who were playing without All-Star Tyrese Haliburton, T.J. McConnell, Aaron Nesmith and Pascal Siakam, were led by Jarace Walker's 15 points. Myles Turner, Bennedict Mathurin and Ben Sheppard each scored 12 points as eight Pacers scored in double figures.
Indiana fell to 1-2 in the preseason and will host the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, Oct. 17 before opening the regular season in Detroit on Oct. 23. The Pacers host Philadelphia on Sunday, Oct. 27 in their home opener.
