MRI confirms Pacers' Wiseman tore his Achilles in season opener

The former second overall pick signed a two-year contract with the Pacers in July.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Pacers say that center James Wiseman suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Wednesday night's season opener against the Detroit Pistons.

In a release, the Pacers said:

"An MRI taken earlier today confirmed that Wiseman tore his left Achilles tendon, and the team and Wiseman are working together to evaluate treatment options. Additional updates on Wiseman’s status will be provided as appropriate."

Wiseman was the second overall pick of the 2020 draft, and had signed a two-year contract with the Pacers on July 5.

Wiseman scored six points in about 4 1/2 minutes of game action Wednesday in Indiana's win over his former team. He left the game with 1:06 remaining in the first quarter.

He has averaged just over nine points a game over his career.

The Pacers play the New York Knicks Friday, Oct. 25 at Madison Square Garden, then return home to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for their home opener on Sunday, Oct. 27 against the Philadelphia 76ers.
