INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Pacers have finally made a draft pick.
After sitting through Wednesday's first round of the NBA draft without a selection, the Pacers traded their first pick of the second round to San Antonio to move up a spot.
The Spurs selected Kansas guard Johnny Furphy with the 35th pick of the draft, then Indiana picked Juan Núñez, a point guard from Spain, with the 36th pick. Despite Furphy being announced as the Spurs pick at the draft, he's coming to Indiana.
Indiana originally acquired the 36th pick in the trade that sent Buddy Hield to Philadelphia. Locked On Pacers host Tony East reported the Pacers included cash with the pick in Thursday's draft-day trade with San Antonio.
Furphy, who won't turn 20 until December, averaged nine points and nearly five rebounds in 33 games as a freshman for the Jayhawks. The Australian was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team.
The Pacers had two more picks in the second round of the draft, selecting UConn guard Tristen Newton with the 49th pick of the draft and Akron forward Enrique Freeman one pick later.
Newton averaged 12.6 points and 5.5 rebounds and assists in two years with the Huskies after transferring from East Carolina. Freeman averaged 14 points and 10.6 rebounds in five seasons with the Zips.
After the draft, the Pacers added a Boilermaker to the roster.
Purdue guard Lance Jones was signed to Indiana's Summer League roster Thursday. He averaged 11.7 points per game last season, his lone season with the Boilermakers after four years at Southern Illinois.
