LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The finishing touches are now complete on one of "the greatest" gravesites in the world.
The family of Muhammad Ali invited the public to view his final resting place Thursday at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville. The gravesite is in a quiet corner, surrounded by benches, flowers and a monument, all of which came from Africa.
Ali is buried under a stone ledger with room for other family members to be buried alongside him. The boxer's headstone features the quotation, "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room in Heaven." Ali once said "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth."
Most people who visited the gravesite Thursday paid their respects through prayer, but some chose to leave mementos. The Muhammad Ali Center says they will collect what's left on the gravesite and create an exhibit in their Louisville museum.
