Race fans hang out in downtown Speedway ahead of Brickyard 400

Fans flocked to Speedway from all across the North American continent ahead of Sunday's race.

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Main Street in Speedway was already packed with race fans Friday afternoon.

The Sandberg family says they drove here from Lincoln, Nebraska, and got to check out the NASCAR drivers practicing.

"It was super fun to see how fast the cars were going. We saw them going at like 200 miles per hour and it was super cool to see that," said Landon Sandberg.

One couple even came from up near Toronto, Canada, just to see what the excitement was all about.

"Today was our first day at the track. We love the track. We like the layout. We went in and checked our several sections. We got to sit high in the stands and look at the opposite side. We got to sit on the grass. We thought that was all pretty neat, so we look forward to race day," said Monica Cachagge who was with her husband, Brett.

One woman says she's been traveling from Chicago the last 20 years to come to the Brickyard 400.

"I love just the excitement of it all and all the activates and things to do and seeing friends from out of town. We have a good time," said Georgia Levy, who lives in Deerfield, a suburb of Chicago.

And while others were coming in from out of town, one man lives just down the street and has been watching races since 1972.

He says every year it's different, but one thing remains the same.

"The friends of mine I meet out here every year. We might not see everybody all year long, but we see them out here and have a good time," said Thomas Krier of Speedway.

But for one nine-year-old, he's not so much a race fan as he is a Speedway fan.

"It's like, really nice people. Really nice things. It's just beautiful here," said Luke Clutinger.
