INDIANAPOLIS — The reigning Formula 2 champion will pilot Arrow McLaren's No. 6 Chevrolet for the rest of the 2024 IndyCar season beginning at Detroit in June.
Theo Pourchaire, who subbed for the injured David Malukas at Long Beach and Barber before Malukas' release from the team, will race in this weekend's Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course before taking over the ride for the rest of the season at next month's Detroit Grand Prix.
An unnamed driver will pilot the No. 6 Chevrolet in the Indianapolis 500.
Pourchaire recently completed an oval test at World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis.
“The NTT INDYCAR SERIES has some of the best racing in motorsport, and now I can say that with experience. I'm excited to take on this challenge with Arrow McLaren for the rest of the season," said Pourchaire in the press release. "This is a special opportunity, and I am committed to learning and improving as we get on track each race weekend. I’ve enjoyed my first two races with the team, and I know we have plenty of potential in front of us."
Pourchaire will forgo the rest of the Super Formula season to compete in IndyCar. He finished 18th in the opening round of the Japanese racing series at Suzuka Circuit in early March.
In his first start with the team at Long Beach, Pourchaire finished 11th. He finished 22nd at the next race at Barber.
Saturday's Sonsio Grand Prix will be Pourchaire's first race experience at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
