INDIANAPOLIS — Rain shortened opening day of practice for the 108th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but the drivers were still able to get in 219 laps in 23 minutes.

Indy 500 winner Scott Dixon turned in the fastest lap — clocking 229.107 mph in his Chip Ganassi Racing car.

Marco Andretti was second at 228.399.

Two-time Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato was third at 225.551.

Pato O’Ward was fourth hitting 224.993 mph.

Christian Lundgaard ended up fifth at 223.844 mph.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan was the only team with multiple cars in the top five.

The rain meant only 29 of the 34 entries were able to get track time, and no driver exceeded 13 laps.

Last year’s opening day was a washout, with no laps turned.

Practice is scheduled to resume from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.

The 108th Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 26 and will air on WTHR Channel 13. Click here to visit the IMS Ticket Marketplace.
