BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Just when you think you've seen it all, the unthinkable happens.
During Sunday's Children's of Alabama Indy Grand Prix IndyCar race at Barber Motorsports Park, a bizarre track hazard appeared to drop from the sky. Upon further inspection, the track hazard was found to be a mannequin.
According to a replay shown on NBC Sports, the mannequin appeared to fall from a pedestrian walkway that traveled over a portion of the race track.
The mannequin landed just barely on the track's surface and was later struck by one of the cars on track, smashing the mannequin's hands.
According to the television broadcast, the mannequin was part of the art that was on display across Barber Motorsports Park.
Surprisingly, the mannequin did not cause a full-course yellow. However, after Sting Ray Robb crashed just a few laps after the mannequin fell, track safety workers removed it from the track.
